April 11, 2012: Omega Centauri against the Light-polluted Sky

I couldn’t believe that I saw Omega Centauri, a globular cluster which is about 13 billion years old, using binoculars in a light polluted sky!

Omega Centauri in constellation Centaurus. Below Centaurus is Crux, one of the famous southern constellations.

I am also amazed that I can discern the globular cluster in a single image with 20 seconds exposure. WOW!

This is one of the reasons why, instead of hating the summer heat, I am actually loving it because of the transparency of the sky!

Happy Summer and Clear Skies!
