Dr. Sheiki Muszaphar Shukor: The First Southeast Asian Astronaut

My boyfriend and I attended the talk of Dr. Sheiki Muszaphar Shukor, the first Southeast asian astronaut, at the Ateneo de Manila University last July 6.

Aside from being an astronaut, Dr. Sheiki Muszaphar Shukor is an orthopedic surgeon and a part-time model. He also teaches Medicine at the National University of Malaysia. All I can say is… WOW!

His talk was very animated and full of exciting stories about living in space. He also shared that astronaut in Malaysian is called Angkasawan. He asked the audience what is astronaut in Filipino. Everyone just giggled, haha!

According to him, becoming an astronaut is not easy but as long you work hard and have the passion, nothing is impossible. Out of 11,000 applicants who aspire to be in ISS, there were only four of them who were chosen. Later, he was the only one who went to space!

It’s rare that I meet someone who has achieved so much at a young age. He is indeed an inspiration to all of us. I wish I can also reach for the stars someday!ūüôā

To the stars!
