Crescent Moon and Venus

The planetary grouping of Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Mercury with thin crescent moon and Perseid meteor shower happened last Aug. 13, 2010 in the Philippines. Unfortunately, some parts of our country were not able to witness the astronomical events due to thick clouds. August is a month of monsoons and typhoons in the Philippines. That is why it is quite a struggle for most astronomy enthusiasts to do observations during this month. On the brighter side, most of us didn’t give up, and even without seeing the planetary grouping, the heavens still gave us a glimpse of the crescent moon and Venus – two brightest objects in the night sky.

My boyfriend and I saw this dramatic celestial sight of the two planetary bodies while having our dinner in one of our favorite restaurants. We really love the breathtaking view and of course the food! ūüôā

To the stars!!

  1. I saw this lovely sight also on my way out of the office. ūüôā Happy to remember seeing this since it was too cloudy to see the Perseid meteor shower!
