Planetary Conjunctions this July 2010

July 2010 Philippine Sky Update

From Ronald Tanco of Philippine Astronomical Society (PAS):

1 to 5 Saturn-Mars-Regulus-Venus visually seen on a straight line (dusk)
9-11 Venus Regulus at conjunction (dusk)
11 New Moon
14-15 Venus-Regulus and Crescent moon (dusk)
16 Moon-Saturn-Mars clustering (dusk)
26 Full moon
27 Mercury-Regulus Conjunction (dusk)
29-31 Mars-Saturn in Conjunction (dusk)

Something to look forward to on July despite the cloud and rains that cover our skies. For this month, we can expect to see 4 planets that can be seen on the western horizon after dusk. If we were to observe every night, we will see Saturn and Venus approaching Mars from the top and bottom of the planet respectively. Regulus will court Venus, who is on her way to Mars, during the 2nd week of July and will be joined in by a thin crescent moon on the 14th and 15th. Regulus will then continue its path to the horizon and meet up with the elusive Mercury on the 27th. We end the month with Saturn and Mars nearing each other with Saturn beginning to overtake Mars to the horizon.

*******
The best grouping of the four planets with the crescent moon will happen on August 13, 2010.  Don’t miss this!!
