Earth Hour at the Seven Suites Hotel Observatory

The Seven Suites Hotel Observatory had its grand re-launching and Earth Hour celebration last night. My boyfriend and I were supposed to arrive there at 6:30pm to attend the two events, but arrived late and have only attended the Earth Hour event.  During Earth Hour, the in-house astronomer of the hotel and all invited Filipino amateur astronomers – particularly members of UP Astrosoc and RTU Astrosoc, stayed at the observing deck to assist guests in stargazing and telescope viewing. As expected,  most visitors were curious and enthusiastic to view the moon and Saturn using the 4th largest telescope (12 inch Dobsonian) in the Philippines.

I also met Astronomy students from the Rizal Technological University (RTU). The said university offers Bachelors and Masters program in Astronomy here in the Philippines and also has a student-based astronomical organization (RTU Astrosoc).

Here are some pictures taken during the Earth Hour celebration:

Free food for guests!

I can’t wait for the Global Astronomy Month in April and attend more stargazing activities such as this.

To the stars!
